The Myth of Metamorphosis in Joseph Klibansky, Filippo Tincolini, and Lucio Carvalho

The new naturalism as a representation of incomprehensibility.

Cupid’s Kiss (2021), Bust of Daedalus (2023), Venus in Paradise (2021) by Klibansky, Tincolini, and Carvalho, although created in different moments and places using diverse techniques, share a common reference to Greek mythology in their titles. On the article of Artuu are examined the works of three contemporary artists – Joseph Klibansky, Filippo Tincolini, and Lucio Carvalho – who reinterpret Greek mythology through sculpture and painting, focusing on the theme of metamorphosis and the use of elements like space suits and helmets. Klibansky explores a neo-Baroque approach with works like "Self-Portrait of a Dreamer," while Tincolini merges the classical and modern worlds with sculptures such as the "Bust of Daedalus." Carvalho uses decorated helmets to transform mythological figures into hybrid images. These artists share a reflection on the relationship between humanity, nature, and technology, using myth as a narrative tool to express alienation and the search for meaning in the contemporary era.
