Tuscan artist Filippo Tincolini redefines the boundaries of contemporary sculpture, merging the tradition of classical art with the aesthetics of modern superheroes. A unique dialogue between past and present that captures the essence of pop culture, reimagined through the eternal medium of marble.
Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, Tincolini embraces the challenge of antiquity, transforming mythological heroes into contemporary symbols. The “Ancient Gods” series is a striking example of this vision: marble busts and figures are infused with the imagery of superheroes like Iron Man or Spiderman—modern icons who, like ancient gods, embody myths, ideals, and contradictions of our time.
His sculptures evoke the polychromy of antiquity, with painted interventions reminiscent of Greek and Roman art, yet expressed in an entirely contemporary language. Tincolini also experiments with materials such as resin and polymaterial inserts, adding innovation and surprise to his creations.
One of his most significant works is the “Spaceman”, crafted during the lockdown: a marble astronaut from which flowers and leaves emerge. The piece symbolizes the duality between exploration and nature, technological progress, and a return to origins—key themes in the artist’s journey.
By combining classical sculpture with pop culture, Filippo Tincolini does not merely celebrate tradition: he transforms it into a bridge toward the future. His works, rich in meaning and extraordinary visual power, offer a reflection on our present, suspended between myth, materiality, and innovation.
